Included in Naples' province, Ischia is also called "the green Island" for the luxuriant vegetation that covers it. On this Island the viticulture has millenary origins. The training system reminds to Greek tradition and differs from the Etruscan ones, typical of the middle Italy. The vineyards grow on the parracine, supporting walls, whose construction wa once an ancient art. Because of the speedy development of the tourism, many of these vineyards had been deserted for decades but in the last years the viticulture of Ischia is living a sort of recovery, particularly in quality.

Giardini Arimei Estate is an example of rebirth of a winery that dates back two centuries. The heroic vineyards are carved into the hillside and held in place by 4 kilometers (7,40 miles) of parracine. The grapes are harvested by hand in seven harvests that last for three seasons and are a mixture of native varieties.

GIARDINI ARIMEI – WINERY

The winery itself is 400 square meters (334 sq.yd.), originally carved into the greenish volcanic rock in 1700, and has a breathtaking view of the sea. Here only two wines are made and they are dedicated to the expression of the moods and flavors of the Island of Ischia.
